Joe Biden’s convoluted plan on how to deliver aid to Gaza has suffered a massive setback. Rather than deliver aid through airdrop or ground transportation, the US military was tasked with building an offshore pier in Hamas territory.
The pier has not failed due to security measures so far but rather from turbulent seas. Several of the cargo ships have drifted away towards Israel, while the pier has been rendered inoperable.NBC News says:
The U.S. military has been forced to suspend aid deliveries into the Gaza Strip by sea after its temporary pier system off Gaza suffered damage in bad weather, the Defense Department confirmed Tuesday.
”Unfortunately, we had a perfect storm of high sea states,” deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh said at a news conference.
Biden’s half measures have only served to aggravate both Israelis and Palestinians, and delivered little meaningful aid. Fox News reports:
President Biden’s administration spent roughly $320 million constructing the massive, floating dock. It was operational for barely a week before the damage occurred.
Of the four stabilizing vessels that detached earlier this week, two of the boats floated northward and landed on a beach in Ashdod, Israel, while the two others remain anchored at the beach near the pier.
Israel’s final assault into Southern Gaza is in full swing, but world condemnation is piling up. While Hamas might be formally removed from power, its supporters will no doubt wage an intense guerrilla war on all those who cooperate with Israel.
