Here’s How the Irish Responded to Islamic Terrorism

An Islamic terrorist carried out a horrific knife attack on Irish children in Dublin. In response, Irish nationalists rioted in the streets, clashing with police and drawing the ire of liberals.

The terrorist, an Algerian immigrant, was detained by police after a Brazilian delivery driver stopped him from escaping or continuing his attack. The Hill reports:

Riots broke out in Dublin on Thursday evening after at least 100 people took to the streets and clashed with police after a knife attack at a school left three young children injured.

According to Irish police, a man in his 50s who was detained as a “person of interest” and sustained injuries, attacked several people at about 1:30 p.m. local time on Thursday outside Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire, a school at Parnell Square East, in the north of Dublin city center.

Ireland has traditionally been a country of emigration, with diasporas all over the world. In recent years, thanks to low corporate taxes, more and more foreigners have been immigrating to Ireland for economic opportunities. Fox News says:

The riots came hours after a knife attack outside a school in the heart of Dublin around 1:30 p.m. A 5-year-old girl was receiving emergency medical treatment in a hospital. A woman and two other children were also injured. A 6-year-old girl sustained less serious injuries, and a boy was discharged from a hospital, officials said.

Irish police said they weren’t treating the case as terror-related, adding that a man in his 50s, who was also hospitalized with serious injuries, is a “person of interest.” No further details about the man’s identity were released by authorities.

Irish politics have not yet reconciled the new reality of mass immigration to the West. Irish nationalists are traditionally left-wing, centering their actions on reunification of Ireland and opposition to Britain and “colonialism” writ large. This incident could be the beginning of political change in Ireland, though it will most likely depend on how the authorities handle it.
